About OTR, Inc.
We believe that each child and family we serve is unique, with their
own story, strengths, and challenges.
We are dedicated to the highest quality of clinical intervention,
guided by current and emerging research and evidence from diverse
sources and disciplines, as well as our own years of clinical
experience.
There are currently many different views and definitions of “Best
Practice” and “Evidence-based Practice” among professionals:
“Behaviorists
tend to adhere to the definition of evidence-based practices as
those arising from ‘scientifically rigorous’ research completed
according to formal research protocols. Allied health professionals
[psychologists, counselors, occupational therapists, speech-language
pathologists, etc.] on the other hand, define evidence-based
practices as those which ‘recognize the needs, abilities, values,
preferences, and interests of individuals and families to whom they
provide services, and integrate those factors, along with best
current research evidence and their clinical expertise in making
clinical decisions.” (Michellle Garcia Winner: ASHA, 2005, p.1)
This view, we believe, allows the therapist to be flexible and
creative as well as systematic in designing interventions that meet
the needs of each child and family.
The staff at OTR, Inc. delivers these services in a professional,
yet comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
About Wilma J.
Dorman, OTR/L, Certified RDI® Consultant
Owner of
Occupational Therapy Resources, Inc.

Wilma Dorman is the
founder of Occupational Therapy Resources, Inc. (OTR, Inc.), which
has been in existence for over 20 years. Wilma received her
Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1966 and her Certificate in
Occupational Therapy in 1973 from the University of Pennsylvania.
Wilma began her career as an occupational therapist at Norristown
State Hospital in 1973, becoming the Assistant Director of the
Occupational Therapy Department. She remained in this position for
over 12 years. During that time she developed the first
hospital-wide sensory integration program in adult psychiatry in
Pennsylvania based on the work of her mentor, Lorna Jean King. Life
after Norristown State Hospital led her to work with adults
recovering from traumatic head injury as well as providing services
to children on the Autistic Spectrum.
When Wilma first began
OTR, Inc. in 1990, it was for the sole purpose of serving families
with children who have special needs. Since its inception, OTR Inc.
has become known as a place where families come to find solutions to
sometimes elusive problems concerning their children. Wilma has
taken the richness of her experiences in adult psychiatry and
extended that interest in brain behavior relationships into the
domain of pediatric occupational therapy. Wilma infuses the entire
practice with the excitement of “doing” that connects the practice
to classic occupational therapy. Children work in a garden, create
murals, design and sell Mother’s day cards for the purpose of
donating the funds to children in need in Haiti, learn ball skills,
master riding a bike or keyboarding.
Wilma’s personal passion
for occupational therapy is based on the fact that it pulls together
her interest in science and her creativity and love for making
things with her hands. Wilma has said that, “Occupational Therapy
brings to life everything that I care about.”
Over the years Wilma and
her staff have developed specialties in the areas of Social
Competence Programming and working with children on the Autistic
Spectrum. Wilma’s recent certification in RDI® (Relationship
Development Intervention) enables her to not only serve her
interests in social competence programming and working with children
on the Autistic Spectrum, but also to see that a sense of
effectiveness is given back to the parents of these children. Wilma
received a Master Clinician Award from Thomas Jefferson School of
Occupational Therapy in May 1992 and a Master Clinician Award from
Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association in September 1992.
Wilma is a co-author with G. Gordon Williamson, Ph.D., OTR titled
“Promoting Social Competence”, which was published in 2002. Wilma
is currently participating in a mentorship training program on
Sensory Processing Disorder with Lucy Jane Miller, Ph.D. She
currently resides in Plymouth Meeting. Wilma is a mother and
grandmother. Wilma also has another love, her retired seeing-eye
dog, Jerico, who comes to the office from time to time and is
regarded as a member of the OTR family.
